Abstract

Background. This preliminary research explores enhancing reaction times in basketball, emphasizing quick response requirements. It uniquely focuses on Fitlight Technology’s role in training and testing, highlighting and defining reactive reaction time.

Aims. The study aimed to analyze Fitlight Technology’s effectiveness in training programs and testing reaction speeds, particularly in 13-14-year-old basketball players.

Methods. Conducted in Târgu Mureș in the sports gym of „Liceul Teoretic Gheorghe Marinescu” , 19 young athletes from LPS Târgu Mureș team participated. Over 8 weeks, they underwent a specialized training regimen using Fitlight, with sessions held three times a week. The program concentrated on diverse motion and reaction drills, measuring both upper and lower limb response times.

Results. The training led to significant improvements in reaction times, especially in upper limb reactive reaction time. This particular aspect showed remarkable enhancement, wich could indicate improved reflex capabilities in rapid, game-like scenarios. While overall reaction times reduced, individual performances varied.

Conclusions. Confirming the hypothesis, the 8-week Fitlight-enhanced training regime markedly improved young players’ reaction speeds, with a standout increase in reactive reaction time. This finding emphasizes the potential of modern technology in sports training, particularly for developing reflexes essential in dynamic sports.
